Staff Appreciation Month 

We will be gathering notes of Thanks and Appreciation for Staff through October. Just drop your note in the basket in the Narthex on any Sunday morning. We appreciate all the gifts our staff brings to Good Shepherd!
 

Date Night - October 19th 

Do you want a night off from your kids or date with your special person? Join us for our next Date Night on Saturday, October 19th at 5pm in the Fireside Room. Kids will meet at 5pm for pizza followed by carnival games. Adults will meet for a short educational talk and then enjoy a night out. Pick up your kids at 8pm. Movie - The Insanity of God 

Come see the documentary, The Insanity of God, on Sunday, October 20th at 2:30pm in the Sanctuary. This is the true story of missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken who journey into the depths of the persecuted church asking the question - Is Jesus Worth It? Join the Ripkens as they tell the story of being taught by believers in persecution - "how to love Jesus, and to walk with Him day-by-day even when it doesn't make sense." Emad Samir will lead a discussion following the movie.
 

Youth & Young Adults

Youth Fall Retreat 

Join us for a stay-cation at the Higgins' House - October 25th-27th - for an opportunity to "get-away" and still be able to keep sporting and family commitments. There will be normal daily shenanigans along with quiet times of prayer, devotions, Life Group Bible study and more! Only $20! Dinner! Singing! Fun! Games! Friends! Snacks! More Fun!! Join your friends for a great season of learning more about The Heart of God. Grades 1-5, structured lesson, toddler/kinder childcare. Program runs September-May.  

Adults

Flu Shots

Our annual flu shots will be given between services in the Fireside Room (new location!) on October 13th. Vaccinations will be given to anyone over the age of nine. Contact Beth Piburn at 562/598.5136 with questions.   

CPR Classes

Classes will be offered on October 21st, November 4th, and November 18th at 6:30pm in Zirbel Hall. Each class is limited to 12 students and is about three hours long. Cost is $15 for supplies. All children ministry workers are urged to attend one of the classes. A card will be provided by the American Heart Association. Literary Women 

Meets on Saturday, October 12th at 9:30am in the Fireside Room. Join us for an interesting discussion on the Book "Where'd You Go, Bernadette" by Semple.         

Retreat

Senior Adults

Luncheon

Join us on Wednesday, October 16th at noon in Zirbel Hall as we welcome back Dewey Erney, musician and vocalist, for an afternoon of music. Tickets are $5. Sign up at the Senior Adult table on the patio.              

Friday Night Gospel Sing-A-Long

Join us on October 18th from 6:30-8pm in the Fireside Room for an evening of fun gospel songs. Acoustic instruments are welcomed. Songs provided with simple chords so anyone can play.                

Serve in Love

Operation Christmas Child  

Beginning Sunday, October 13th, Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes will be available on the patio for you to pick up and fill for needy children around the world. Contact Sue Ludwig at 562/421.1026 with questions.   

Marti's Closet for the Homeless  

We will be accepting donations only of ladies' button front blouses, sweaters, and jackets (sizes medium and up) and men's clothing of shirts, sweaters and jackets. Bring on the last Sunday of the month, October 27th. Remember, these need to be gently worn, laundered, ironed, and women's on hangers and men's in bags. Flower Calendar  

If you would like to provide flowers in the Sanctuary for worship in 2019, please stop by or call the church office to sign up. Dates available are October 20th, and November 17th.
